GADAB FOUNDATION WOMEN PROGRAM (GFWP)
The Women Program is part of the Gadab Foundation, mainly focusing on educational accomplishments of Oromo females attending High School in Oromia. The goal of WP is to enhance educational interests among Oromo females by making different resources available to them. Through mentoring programs such as college assessment exam preparation, and career choice trainings, students will be able to successfully complete four years of high school and move on to higher education.
Lack of education seems to be the number one barriers among many Oromo females. Therefore, it is the responsibility of our generation to encourage young Oromo females in the pursuit of higher education. Today there are less than five percent of Oromo females attending college in Oromia (estimated by GF). Also here in the United States only one out of three Oromo females continue on to college after high school. The remaining enter the workforce, and become responsible adults with no promising careers.
Bridging this gap will make significant changes for Oromo females who have the potential to be successful, yet do not have the opportunity. The Gadab foundation women program will have a lifelong effect on the lives of many young, valuable, and self-motivated females of our future. The foundation believes that education should not be a choice for our generation; it should be an urgent necessity to protect our way of life.
The services for the GFWP include but will not be limited to:
- Assistance in preparing for college entrance exams
- Financial support from GF in some cases
- An opportunity to meet with university students in personal level
- University graduate speakers from time to time
- Tours of a variety of university and technical college campuses
