About Gadab Foundation

The Gadab Foundation Scholarship Program, established in 2006, is to assist currently enrolled Oromo Students in High School as well as universities in Oromia (East Africa, Ethiopia). The Foundation is non-profit, non-political, and non-religious organization. The purpose is mainly educational and is aimed at providing financial and other aid in the form of scholarship awards to enable students obtain all necessary material and to meet requirements of their courses and to be able to complete their High School education and continue on to university. The Foundation wishes to help raise the level of student retention in the schools in the Oromia District. Consequently the Foundation encourages students to remain in school during the period of the scholarship until they achieve their academic goals. The Gadab Foundation award is competitive and makes this scholarship available only to aspiring, hardworking and deserving students with good school continuity record. Female students and students from disadvantaged parents or homes are encouraged to apply for the scholarship to cover their fees, supplies and other needs.

The primary objective of the Gadab Foundation Scholarship Program is to enable more Oromo students to enter and progress steadily through their higher education. It is also our goal to help Oromo students who have dropped out of higher institutions due to financial problems and wish to go back. The Foundation awards should influence every Oromos who live in North America as well as in other parts of the world, to support our foundation or initiate similar foundation that would assist Oromo students back home. Our philosophy is if all Oromo people in the diaspora recognize the value of education and support one Oromo student get to college/universities, the number of Oromo students in higher education will increase dramatically in a very short time, and will be a great contribution to the development of the Oromo community.

Students who want to enjoy this scholarship should be willing to go back and contribute to their community as well as to the society. We strongly believe in the new generation, and we also believe that it is our duty to create a way by which we can provide this new generation of students with whatever is necessary for them to acquire adequate education. Assisting these students financially and encouraging them to enroll in higher education would be the best thing that the Foundation wishes to contribute to Oromo citizens.
